Catalog description
The purpose of this course is to prepare students to teach elementary music for students in grades three through five. Accordingly, the course will introduce pedagogical strategies that combine movement and music activities and examine music-specific topics such as the development of the child’s singing voice, appropriate song literature, classroom management, etc. The course bridges theory with practicality through studying the theoretical basis of different teaching approaches, observing demonstrations, actively participating in lessons, and then creating and teaching lessons for use in an elementary classroom setting. This course typically features a long-term field experience. Prerequisites: Acceptance into music teacher preparation program (EPP) and MUS 450 .
