Catalog description

This course is a continuation of foundational audio engineering studies, designed for students seeking deeper technical expertise and creative fluency in professional music production. Emphasizing advanced recording, mixing, and mastering practices, students will engage with complex studio workflows, hybrid analog-digital setups, critical listening environments, and real-world production scenarios. Topics include advanced microphone techniques, session management, outboard gear integration, mastering for multiple formats, and critical analysis of professional mixes. Students will lead and collaborate on full-scale recording projects across a variety of genres, refining their ability to make technically sound and musically expressive engineering decisions. By the end of the course, students will be prepared to take on professional roles in recording studios, production houses, or independent music projects. Prerequisites: MUS 310 Music Technology.
