This course provides an introduction to the wide range of research questions and debates that occupy historians of the ancient Mediterranean world. Readings will concentrate on the concept of sea and land connectivity, the impact of plague and climate change, transforming political structures, the role of the "other," religious culture, and defining the scope and scale of the Mediterranean world.
