Catalog description

This introductory PhD-level course provides a comprehensive examination of the grammar system, with a particular emphasis on its application in teaching English to speakers of other languages and within the field of applied linguistics. While the course reviews core grammatical concepts, it emphasizes challenges and questions commonly encountered by ESL/EFL learners. The course aims to deepen students’ explicit knowledge of English grammar, foster engagement with current literature on grammar pedagogy, and strengthen their ability to design effective activities for teaching and assessing grammar. Prerequisites: PhD students in Applied Linguistics or instructor approval.
