Literature and Identities

Catalog description

This course explores how literature shapes and reflects personal and collective identities, focusing on one or more different aspects of identity (e.g., social class and roles, geography, heritage, family dynamics and structures, gender, race, sexuality, age, dis/ability, nationality). Covering a variety of genres across time periods and geographic regions, this course examines how these texts navigate, challenge, and redefine notions of identity. Students will investigate how literature serves as a powerful tool for self-expression, cultural representation, and social change. May be repeated for credit when the emphasis changes. Prerequisites: ENG 1302 .
