Children's and Young Adult Literature

Catalog description

This course is a survey of children’s and young adult literature that may include various authors and illustrators in such genres as the oral tradition, fantasy, realistic and historical fiction, the novel, poetry, and the picture book. This course applies critical theory to texts for young people in order to better understand the complexities and controversies of this seemingly simple literature and how it reflects and impacts the culture that it came from. Students may analyze and create children’s and YA texts in order to better understand the literature and the reception and publication processes. Prerequisites: ENG 1302 .
