Catalog description

This course explores the fundamental principles of electric power transmission and distribution systems. The topics covered include parameters and performance of transmission lines, low and high voltage distribution systems, three-phase transformers and autotransformers, three-phase filters, static synchronous compensators and static VAR compensators, substation design and operations, and HVDC transmission system. The course has an associated Laboratory experiments set, which will require the use of simulation software (e.g. MATLAB, LABVIEW, LVSIM-EMS) and hardware equipment. Prerequisites: EE 440 with a minimum grade of C.
