Catalog description

This project-oriented capstone course provides students with an opportunity to apply their AI knowledge and skills to real-world problems. Working in teams, students will identify a significant challenge, design an AI-driven solution, and develop a functional prototype or proof of concept. The projects will focus on practical applications across diverse domains such as healthcare, finance, robotics, cybersecurity, or environmental sustainability. Throughout the course, students will engage in all phases of AI solution development, including problem definition, data collection and preprocessing, model selection and training, evaluation, and deployment considerations. Emphasis will be placed on ethical AI practices, interpretability, and responsible AI use. Each project must incorporate at least one advanced AI method in areas such as natural language processing (NLP), computer vision, robotics, reinforcement learning, generative AI, or multi-agent systems. Students are expected to explore cutting-edge techniques, implement state-of-the-art models, and evaluate their performance in practical scenarios. Students will collaborate with industry partners, faculty mentors, or research labs to ensure their projects address real-world needs. The course culminates in a final presentation and demonstration of their AI solutions, along with a technical report documenting their methodology, results, and lessons learned. Prerequisites: CSCI 367 with a minimum grade of C and CSCI 374 with a minimum grade of C.
