Foundations and Strategies for Teaching Emergent Bilinguals

This course examines the historical, philosophical, theoretical, and legal foundations of Emerging Bilingual education. Pre-service teachers will explore the linguistic, cultural, and academic factors influencing Emerging Bilinguals' development. Emphasis is placed on research-based instructional strategies that promote oral language development, academic vocabulary, and content mastery. Students will analyze theories of second language acquisition, evaluate bilingual and ESL program models, and investigate the societal and policy factors affecting bilingual communities. The course also focuses on the application of formal and informal assessments, standardized testing procedures, and LPAC processes to support the academic growth and success of linguistically diverse learners.<br/>
