Catalog description

The course is an introduction into the field of professional school counseling and includes a study of the history, and emergence of, school counseling and guidance, as well as the transformed role of the school counselor. Students will become familiar with the Texas Model for Comprehensive School Counseling Programs and the American School Counselor Association’s National Model. Standards for School Counseling Programs and how these standards impact the school counseling profession are addressed. Students are introduced to legal and ethical concerns in school counseling. Additionally, students will understand and apply concepts associated with Tier 1 interventions in the Comprehensive School Counseling Program. Prerequisite(s): Admission to School Counselor program.<br/>
