Catalog description

This course provides an in-depth exploration of Alzheimer's disease and related dementias, focusing on their impact on individuals and families. Students will gain a comprehensive understanding of brain function and cognitive changes, diagnostic criteria, and assessment tools. The course covers behavioral and psychological symptoms, effective communication strategies, and current treatments and research. Emphasis is placed on person-centered care, ethical and legal issues, cultural sensitivity, and community resources. Through lectures, case studies, and practical assignments, students will develop the skills necessary to support individuals with dementia and their families, while addressing the challenges and opportunities in the field of dementia care.
