GEOG 3356
SPATIAL ANALYSIS OF HUMAN AND PHYSICAL LANDSCAPES WITH GIS.
University of Texas at Arlington · UGRD · Fall 2026
Catalog description
This course builds on introductory GIS (Geographic Information Systems) skills and focuses on advanced cartography, geovisualization, and spatial analysis. Students learn techniques such as map algebra, terrain modeling, remote sensing, spatial statistics, and interactive or web-based mapping. Lab assignments emphasize applying these methods to real-world social science and physical science research questions, including urban change, population dynamics, and historical landscape reconstruction. By the end of the course, students will be able to design and carry out GIS-based research projects that combine rigorous spatial analysis with professional-quality maps and visualizations. Prerequisite: GEOG 3355 or consent of instructor.
