This course examines the development of modern architecture and the modern city from the early 19th to the late 20th century through a global lens, tracing the theories and forces that shaped their emergence, evolution, and crises. Focusing on key movements, ideas, projects, buildings, and urban plans that characterized this era, students will engage with the theories that defined architectural modernity and the diverse movements and critiques that emerged from it. The course also examines how political, social, and cultural force-such as industrialization, technological progress, evolving ideologies, and global conflict-shaped architectural modernity across different regions of the world. Prerequisites: ARCH 5303 .
