STRESS, CRISIS, AND COPING.

Catalog description

The impact of specific crises on individuals and families will be examined including the unique stresses, crises, and coping responses of diverse cultural and social identities as these relate to the stresses of oppression and social injustice and inequity. Variations in cultural wellness and health relative to stress and recovery will also be explored. Typical crises will include life-threatening illness, trauma, physical and mental disability, and death. Assessment and evaluation of an individual's coping ability and appropriate strategies for social work interventions will be studied. Differential therapeutics relative to ethnicity, cultural norms, inclusiveness, and access to wellness resources, will be infused into course assignments and discussion. Co-requisite: SOCW 5311 .
