Catalog description

This course provides theoretical and practical introductions to data engineering, focusing on modern tools and scalable data infrastructure. Students will develop proficiency in SQL and the relational model as a foundation for querying and managing structured data. The course covers key data warehousing concepts, including dimensional modeling and design best practices for analytical workloads. Emphasis is placed on understanding ETL vs. ELT pipelines and the differences between batch and streaming data processing. Hands-on labs and projects will guide students through designing and implementing data pipelines and orchestrating workflows using contemporary software applications. Prerequisite: INSY 5335 or consent of graduate advisor.
