Catalog description

This course provides a comprehensive overview of sustainability principles as applied to the planning, design, construction, and operation of the built environment. Topics include sustainable site selection, energy and water efficiency, responsible materials selection and reuse, waste minimization strategies, and the enhancement of indoor environmental quality. Students are introduced to the U.S. Green Building Council's (USGBC) LEED® green building rating system as a decision support and performance evaluation framework for achieving sustainable and high-performance buildings. The course integrates environmental, economic, and social considerations to promote lifecycle thinking and informed decision making in green building design and construction. Credit not granted for more than one of the following: AREN 4307 , CE 4307 , CE 5382 , and CM 5382 .
