ARCH 5384
TECTONICS III: APPLIED STRUCTURES.
University of Texas at Arlington · UGRD · Fall 2026
1 section
Catalog description
The course introduces structural behavior, strength, and material properties, examining both elastic and plastic response and key measures such as yield strength. Students study gravity and lateral loads, load combinations, and their distribution within structural systems. Simple structural analysis methods are applied to determine internal forces, moments, and shear in members. The course includes step-by-step design of decks, beams, girders, joists, and columns, integrating analytical reasoning with constructability, material behavior, and architectural form. Prerequisite: ARCH 5383 .
