Catalog description

This course surveys major developments in global architecture from 1750 to the end of the twentieth century, a period shaped by the rise of modern democracy, industrialization, and shifting cultural values. Lectures and readings frame modernity as a historical condition that affects the built environment, and modernism as a broad range of artistic and architectural responses, highlighting both Western and non-Western contexts. The course traces the emergence of modern architecture, its diverse trajectories worldwide, and the crises-social, cultural, and environmental-that have challenged its ideals. Prerequisites: "C" or better in ARCH 1302 and ARCH 2503 . Restricted to declared Architecture majors. Minimum 2.8 GPAs both cumulative and within the major required. Corequisites: ARCH 2504 .
