Introduction to Immunology

Credits 3. 3 Lecture Hours. This is an entry-level course designed to provide the students with an opportunity to gain an understanding of the basic features of the host defense system. The goal of this course is to familiarize the students with the mechanisms that are employed by the immune system to protect the host against infections and with the mechanisms that underlie aberrant immune responses including hypersensitivity reactions, autoimmune diseases and immune deficiency. This course will be offered in a welcoming and an intellectually stimulating setting that facilitates achievement of the learning outcomes. The students are encouraged to engage in active discussions for easier assimilation and a comprehensive understanding of the subject matter. Prerequisite: Junior or senior classification.
