Credits 3. 3 Lecture Hours. This course is designed to introduce you to major infectious diseases caused by viral, bacterial and parasitic pathogens that infect human beings, other mammals and sometimes insects. The lectures and assigned readings and videos focus on key historically important diseases, such as the plague, tuberculosis, cholera, influenza, yellow fever and HIV-AIDS, and recent emerging diseases, such as Ebola, Lassa Fever, COVID-19 and Monkey Pox. We will examine these diseases in depth, including their causes, historical impact, social and medical consequences, prevention and treatment. Prerequisite: Freshman or sophomore classification.
