Credits 3. 1 Lecture Hour. 5 Lab Hours. This course explores the principles and practices of cinematography and lighting in the context of contemporary virtual production. Students engage with both the practical craft of image, making and the critical analysis of cinematic form, investigating how light, lens and movement operate as expressive, technical and interpretive tools. Through film analysis, design exercises and virtual simulation with a 3D real-time game and simulation development system, the course bridges the traditions of studio cinematography with emerging digital workflows. Students learn how to construct, evaluate and refine cinematic imagery, translating aesthetic and narrative intention into visual and spatial composition. The course emphasizes cinematography as a language of thought and emotion, uniting analytical insight with creative experimentation in both physical and virtual environments. Prerequisites: Grade of C or better in VIST 200 ; junior or senior classification.
