Credits 3. 3 Lecture Hours. Exploration of community and stakeholder engagement in the development of urban and regional plans; theory and practice of communication and its relationship with urban planning process; study of effective listening, managing conflict and engaging in difficult conversations; evaluation of how verbal, written, graphical and non-verbal communications contribute to conveying planning concepts and values transparently, clearly and effectively to a variety of planning audiences and contexts; analyzes barriers that reduce participation in planning processes and evaluates methods for achieving broad and representative participation; exploration of planning ethics and related ethics in public-decision-making. Prerequisites: URPN majors.
