Credits 3. 3 Lecture Hours. Sport has evolved into a global industry, with organizations increasingly expanding into international markets to access new consumers, revenue streams and development opportunities. Given this shift, current and aspiring sport industry professionals must understand various aspects of international sport business, such as economic and legal environments, governance structures, cultural differences, communication styles, management practices and the strategic challenges associated with operating in the global marketplace. Case studies, lectures, scenarios and both individual and collaborative research projects introduce students to a range of international sports organizations (e.g., FIFA, IOC). Explore potential opportunities and issues, with a particular emphasis on examining distinctions between the U.S. sport industry and sport markets worldwide. Prerequisite: Junior or senior classification; also taught at Galveston campus.
