Credits 3. 3 Lecture Hours. Importance of private lands and how collaboration between landowners and natural resource professionals is essential for their conservation; introduction to general concepts and principles of private land stewardship (PLS); acquaintance with the origins of land stewardship and private lands, trends and status of private lands at the national and regional levels, and common approaches and tools for PLS, legal, regulatory and economic challenges and opportunities; introduction on how to foster land stewardship from multiple perspectives (agency, professional manager and landowner), the spiritual responsibility of stewardship and the development of a land ethic. Prerequisite: Graduate classification or approval of instructor.
