Avian Conservation and Management

Credits 3. 2 Lecture Hours. 3 Lab Hours. This course explores the ecological, biological and human dimensions of bird conservation and management in North America. Students will examine the diversity of avian species, their habitats and the threats they face from habitat loss, climate change, invasive species and human activity. Emphasis is placed on conservation strategies, population monitoring techniques, habitat restoration and policy frameworks at local, national and global levels. Through lectures, fieldwork and case studies, students will gain practical skills in avian identification, data collection and management planning, preparing them for careers in wildlife conservation, environmental consulting or further academic study. Prerequisites: RWFM majors; grade of C or better in ECCB 302 or approval of instructor.
