Foundation for evolving areas of science and industry; phenomena of nonlinear optics; relevant areas of physics, nonlinear science, and engineering; material requirements; approaches to solving Maxwell's equations in the presence of nonlinear polarization; quantum mechanical descriptions of nonlinear optics phenomena. Prerequisites: PHYS 414 ; PHYS 305 ; PHYS 221 ; graduate classification or approval of instructor.
