Credits 3. 3 Lecture Hours. Quantization of radiation field; thermal, coherent and squeezed states; quasiprobability distributions; quantum coherence theory; semiclassical and quantum theories of atom-field interaction; Maxwell-Bloch equations; quantum theory of damping (density matrix and Heisenberg-Langevin treatments); semiclassical and quantum theories of laser; lasing without inversion; micromaser; electromagnetically induced transparency; resonance fluorescence. Prerequisite: PHYS 606 or approval of instructor.
