Credits 3. 3 Lecture Hours. Explore research, theory and methods that investigate how drugs influence behavior. Examine the physiological, pharmacological and behavioral effects of psychoactive substances, with emphasis on recreational and addictive drugs. Explore how drugs interact with neurotransmitter systems to alter brain function and behavior. Analyze short- and long-term effects of drug use, mechanisms of addiction and withdrawal, and evidence-based treatments. Investigate major drug classes and their historical, cultural and policy contexts. Apply neuroscience and psychopharmacological research methods to understand how drugs impact individuals and society. Prerequisites: PBSI 235 , PBSI 340 , VIBS 277 or NRSC 277.
