Credits 3. 3 Lecture Hours. Overview of point, line and surface defects in solids; relates defect properties to material behaviors, such as diffusion, plastic deformation or phase transformations; focuses on atomic defects in crystals, with additional examples from liquid crystals, superconductors or ferromagnets; incorporates atomistic modeling to examine defect structure. Prerequisites: Grade of C or better in MSEN 601 ; graduate classification or approval of instructor.
