Credits 3. 3 Lecture Hours. Provides a background in quantum mechanics for students with little or no quantum mechanics background. The following topics will be covered: limits of classical physics, waves and quantum mechanics, physical interpretation of quantum theory, time-dependent Schrödinger equation and its applications, functions and operators, approximation methods, time-dependent perturbation theory, angular momentum, hydrogenic atom, quantum mechanics in crystalline materials, spin and quantum statistics. Prerequisites: Grade of C or better in PHYS 207 and MSEN 330 ; or approval of instructor.
