Survey of deformation and failure mechanisms in different materials, including metals, ceramics, polymers and composites; effect of atomistic structure, defects and microstructure on deformation and failure; deformation and failure mechanism maps and effects of temperature and deformation rate. Prerequisite: Grade of C or better in MSEN 260 .
