Fundamental principles of materials science and engineering and their application toward complex engineering challenges; relationship between materials structure and structural and functional properties of engineered materials; property-performance relationships; principle classes of materials, as illustrated through key materials advances; current directions in the field. Prerequisites: Grade of C or better in CHEM 107 or CHEM 119 and PHYS 206 .
