Credits 0 to 10. 0 to 10 Other Hours. Expansion of knowledge of the business of medicine through interactive sessions and one-on-one discussions with healthcare executive leaders; includes medico-legal and business practice issues affecting physicians and organizations, understanding payer mix and the impact of various types of medical coverage, importance of proper and effective patient documentation and billing, critical importance of patient safety and quality, risk management processes and various other topics; understanding of the importance of administrative, financial, interpersonal communication and teamwork and systems-based approaches to improving healthcare. Prerequisites: Admission to medical school; completion of pre-clerkship or basic science curriculum; 4th year classification.
