Credits 0 to 10. 0 to 10 Other Hours. Increase awareness of the unique characteristics of the elderly, understand the normal aging process, and differentiate this from disease; improvement of the ability to assess and treat frail and acutely ill elderly patients, and recognize the unique aspects of drug therapy in the elderly; exposure to the concept of the multidisciplinary care team, in which a variety of health care professionals work together in order to enhance the care of complex patients; team members include nurses, social workers, chaplains, physical therapist and others; exposure to comprehensive geriatric assessment, community home services and other services that help to avoid or delay institutional care.
