Credits 3. 3 Lecture Hours. This course will study the key metabolic and physiological innovations of extremophile organisms; topics include the molecular biology, biochemistry and physiology of organisms living in extreme environments. This course will provide a comprehensive understanding of the biochemical and physiological adaptations of extremophile organisms. Key concepts covered will include: the types of extreme environments, extremophile metabolism and physiology, along with an overview of how changing environmental conditions impact the adaptive capabilities of threatened species. Prerequisites: MARB 315 ; CHEM 228 or CHEM 258 ; junior or senior classification or approval of instructor.
