Credits 3. 3 Lecture Hours. Examination of the law governing the education of children with disabilities; analysis of the framework of special education law, focusing on regulations such as the Individuals with Disabilities in Education Act (IDEA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the No Child Left Behind Act, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, and the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act; exploration of key issues in special education law as set forth in Supreme Court decisions and how those decisions have impacted the practice and application of the law in schools. Prerequisites: Graduate classification.
