Credits 3. 3 Lecture Hours. This systematic and regional course introduces geographic issues covering the geography of the United States from environmental, political, social/cultural and economic perspectives with a focus on the many ways that culture, politics, economics and social difference are manifested in and through spatial relations and processes. Our case studies will emphasize that the United States is an ever-changing configuration of ideas, institutions, people and objects. This course also aims to develop conceptual tools for critical thinking, rather than an encyclopedic knowledge of the United States’ geographic features. Finally, the course introduces students to a variety of concepts and methods that geographers use to analyze spatial patterns and processes. Prerequisites: Junior or senior classification; also taught at Galveston campus.
