Catalog description

Credits 3. 3 Lecture Hours. Focus on a single genre (e.g., detective fiction, historical novel, Western fiction), including analysis of its history and development; exploration of the chosen genre's typical stylistic and/or thematic components. Students can expect to gain an understanding of the dynamics of genre as a shaping force on cultural texts. Instructors teaching this class will choose texts, assessments and approaches that represent historic and current scholarship and satisfy course learning objectives. May be taken two times for credit. Prerequisites: 3 credits of literature at 200-level or above; junior or senior classification.
