Exploration of some representative works illustrating the development of the novel, by writers resident in Great Britain and its colonies, from its beginnings to the late nineteenth century. Instructors teaching this class will choose texts, assessments and approaches that represent current scholarship and satisfy course learning objectives. Prerequisite: 3 credits of literature at 200-level or above.
