Exploration of American literature and culture from the Civil War to World War I, covering writers who may include Twain, James, Freeman, Jewett, Chesnutt, Crane, Dreiser, Wharton and others. Instructors teaching this class will choose texts, assessments and approaches that represent current scholarship and satisfy course learning objectives. Prerequisites: 3 credits of literature at 200-level or above.
