Credits 3. 3 Lecture Hours. Examination of Native American literature from the 19th century to the present, with a focus on the formal and narrative techniques used by Native authors to translate Indigenous survival, governance, storytelling traditions and kinship networks into the novel form. Class material may also cover the way native literature responds to the mythologization of “The Indian” in American popular media. Instructors teaching this class will choose texts, assessments and approaches that represent current scholarship and satisfy course learning objectives. Prerequisite: Junior or senior classification or approval of instructor.
