Catalog description

Credits 3. 3 Lecture Hours. Period course in American literature and culture from the 1820s to the 1860s, covering writers who may include, but not limited to, Emerson, Hawthorne, Thoreau, Walker, Douglass, Melville, Poe, Whitman, Dickinson, Jacobs and others. Instructors teaching this class will choose texts, assessments and approaches that represent current scholarship and satisfy course learning objectives. Prerequisite: 3 credits of literature at 200-level or above.
