Credits 3. 3 Lecture Hours. How does one tell the story of the natural world and human interactions within it? This course explores that question through environmental literature, investigating creative efforts that imagine, celebrate, exploit and advocate for the more-than-human world. Students will engage with a variety of texts, practice interpretive methods from literary studies and ask critical questions about how narrative and other forms of representation shape our understanding of the environment and our personal or social responsibilities to the natural world of which humans are a part. This course is reading intensive. Instructors teaching this class will choose texts, assessments and approaches that represent current scholarship and satisfy course learning objectives; also taught at Qatar campus.
