Credits 3. 3 Lecture Hours. Analysis of the operation and regulation of energy markets and the design of efficient energy policy; applies microeconomic theory and empirical methods to sectors including oil, gasoline, electricity, natural gas, renewables and nuclear power; examines market structure, pricing and investment under evolving technologies and environmental constraints; studies the interaction between energy and environmental policies such as fuel economy standards, carbon pricing and cap-and-trade programs; considers domestic and international experiences to evaluate how regulation and innovation shape energy efficiency, sustainability and market performance. Prerequisites: Grade of C or better in ECON 323 ; junior or senior classification or approval of instructor.
