Credits 3. 3 Lecture Hours. Application of economic theory and empirical methods to the study of crime and criminal justice policy; examines how incentives, deterrence and opportunity costs influence criminal behavior; analyzes the effects of policing, punishment, incarceration and rehabilitation on crime rates and social welfare; explores issues of rationality, discrimination and inequality within the justice system; considers evidence on crime-reduction policies; integrates data analysis to assess the effectiveness of crime-control strategies. Prerequisite: Grade of C or better in ECON 323 .
