Study of element models in active power distribution systems in smart grid operation from a physics and engineering perspective; exploration of emerging topics such as integrating solar panels, microgrid operations, advanced metering infrastructure, and restoration and outage management for active power distribution systems; exposure to software tools for solving three-phase unbalanced power flow analysis and simple distribution system optimal power flow problems. Prerequisites: Graduate classification.
