Credits 3. 3 Lecture Hours. Exploration of key concepts in marine ecosystems including nutrient cycles, primary production, species interactions, and how hydrodynamic process such as ocean currents, tidal currents, wave action, and upwelling affect ecosystems; examination of intertidal, coastal, and open-water ecosystems, encompassing pelagic, mesopelagic, and deep-sea environments across tropical, subtropical, temperate, Arctic, and Antarctic regions; impacts of human activities, including fisheries, climate change, marine transportation, and natural resource exploitation, on marine ecosystems. Prerequisites: Junior or senior classification; BIOL 111 , BIOL 112 , and ECCB 205 recommended.
