Credits 3. 3 Lecture Hours. Physical properties of soils; including particle size analysis, plasticity and soil classification. Principles of soil compaction. Stresses in soils. Use of soil properties to estimate soil shear strength, settlement and consolidation, bearing capacity and lateral earth pressures. Prerequisite: COSC 321 .
