Structure, bonding and reactivity of inorganic solids developed from a perspective emphasizing models of chemical bonding, symmetry and electronic structure; methods for characterizing extended periodic solids; descriptions of band structure and contrasts to molecular orbital theory; synthetic routes, quantum confinement and finite size effects of relevance to nanoscale materials. Prerequisites: Grade of C or better in CHEM 102 or CHEM 120 ; PHYS 207 or equivalent; junior or senior classification.
