Credits 3. 3 Lecture Hours. Introduction to cultural and social issues in planning, design, construction, creativity and the visual arts; explores historical and social ways individual and collective values, beliefs and policies are manifested in architecture, landscape architecture, urban planning, construction science and the arts. Emphasizes student-led discussion of topics that relate to social issues and the built environment, such as housing, gentrification, environmental justice, public monuments and memorials, labor force issues in the built environment industries and other contemporary issues. Strengthens students’ communication skills through emphasis on civil discourse, reflection and collaboration in a multicultural society.
